News It Is

News-wise there are only two things of importance to everyone in the world.  One is something like destructive nuclear activity which would cover the earth.  Humans do have the knowledge to do that. The other is the potential of an unavoidable as yet unknown that would likewise devastate the planet.  Several remote possibilities are in the latter, such as the chance of a huge meteor that would knock the Earth out of orbit, a disease for which there is no control or cure or a factor within the Earth that would change the surface.

The unknowns are just that and something not exactly expected on the basis of what is known today.  Much is known.  Such unknowns are unlikely but not totally impossible.  As for nuclear (or anything more powerful) matters, information about that is the world’s news at any time.  It’s what’s important to everyone (and for that matter every being) on Earth.  Everything else is important only to some, maybe many, but still only some.  There’s one link at left already (the BBC thing) for a handy quick look at any “world news.”

As for “news” of other importance, that importance is very relative.  Late today a memorandum was slid under the door to yours truly’s apartment.  It said housekeeping inspection would be in August.  It’s news to the hundred and fifty or so people in the building, their children if they help and others who might somehow be affected.  It’s not “world news” even if it’s posted several places online, and even if in some mysterious way the repercussions are felt around the world.  (One never completely knows about repercussions.)

Peace is never certain.
