A New Way?

It was never an intention to be changing the method of “production” herein, but it does seem like that is happening.  It’s Monday night.  The only thing possible at this point is to look at the calendar and try to re-construct the past week.  Not one thought has been noted down anywhere due largely to a state of exhaustion or the like.  More or less sleeping most of Saturday and Sunday did provide the energy to get through the day.  That wasn’t all that was done.  It was just most of what was done.  As both ankles hurt substantially, the bed was unavoidable that way as well.

There was no homemaker aide on Wednesday.  There has been much discussion on the matter, and it isn’t okay yet.  There was nursing service both Wednesday and Friday, and Friday’s was the argumentative and incomplete kind.  To make matters worse, although it seems the ankle and foot area seem better, there’s a bubbling up elsewhere.  It would be pure chaos if it weren’t for “regular friend.”  At least there’s cash in hand to get stuff from the food truck come Friday and at some time maybe from the drug store.  He also got the money orders for rents and a copy of the insurance letter for the office.

The filter changing for the heating and air conditioning unit never happened (it supposedly be rescheduled for today, Tuesday) .  The proposed inspection for a new lease also never happened so far.  Every visit to the office finds a new staff person holding down the fort.  It looks like they are routing people in from out of town….   The one there when the insurance letter was turned in was not only a new face but was talking on the telephone and gushing all over the place at the time.  It seems unlikely she heard  word said.  (There was enough energy to run down with that on 8/26.)

Sometimes it’s not possible to put down much.

August 13-19, 2013, Also Different

As “mentioned” last week, hey, it’s either this way or no way.  It’s existence that was totally upset to begin with that has been totally ”re-upset.”

Doctor.  Doctor came on Tuesday (8/13), took down some notes, laid out some plans at least mentally and pulled off the bandages that were a big concern.  The plans included a nurse from a different organization  and some clinical tests to be done in-house with portable equipment.  And, the doctor somewhere in there said something that seemed to mean the situation might be too much for general practitioner/family doctor types.

Nurse and tests.  Nurse came Friday and re-did the bandages (took two hours) and set yesterday (8/19) for replacement of same – results and any addenda unknown at this writing as it is Sunday afternoon.  The first equipment was to be an X-ray, but it turns out that was mis-information as it was called “echo” (real definition unknown) which is some kind of reading of heart action.  It happened Saturday and couldn’t be finished due to bandages.

Homemaker aide.  The good aide that was coming “is no longer with the agency” and there has been no word beyond that.  Regular friend has carried out trash twice now, swept out the place, picked up the post office mail and bought a few supermarket and drug store things.  That’s in addition to getting rental money orders.  Just fortunately he can find the time at the moment.  Even if there’s a replacement assigned for tomorrow (8/21) it takes weeks of “training.”

Apartment.  The new leasing paper work is not done yet, although a letter from the insurance company is now in hand (still needs to be copied).  The inspection that goes with it all originally set for last Friday and scratched due to the nurse coming has not only not been re-set, the property manager was talking something else when there was a trip to the office late Friday to see about it.  Apparently a few more trips to the office are ahead.

Computer.  At the moment the computer seems to be working okay and is now getting easier to use.  (That’s a good thing.)

Finding bright spots can be difficult.

August 6-12, 2013, Is Different

Hey, it’s either this way or no way.  Indeed, if things continue as is it will be no way regardless.

1.  Computer.  (No computer guarantees no way.)  All the stuff to be “installed” from old favorites/bookmarks are in the system somewhere.  The thing doesn’t connect too well sometimes, but there’s no known need to waste time searching for something and the like.  It’s presently Sunday and it’s not even remembered at this point whether it was finished Friday or Saturday.  First not picky actual thing done: the current posting for The Diary’s Blog.

2.  Homemaker Aide.  The new caseworker from the agency that does the actual contracting showed up Tuesday to say hello.   The homemaker aide had trouble with her car and didn’t show up Wednesday.  Car trouble is a bad sign.  An aide can lose her job if she has no car to get around.  In this case it’s bad for a couple of reasons, one being it’s a bad time to be getting a new aide.  That’s just one.  As the apartment management scheduled an inspection, it’s a worry.

3.  Nurse.  Nurse showed up on Thursday, not Wednesday and Friday as laid out at first.  She went and got an authorization for a crappy treatment that had some kind of strange drainage on the air bed by evening.  Email was sent.  Then calls went to the office both Friday and Saturday. A nurse came this (Sunday) a.m. to adjust matters, but because the order was there she couldn’t do anything much but replace what the first nurse had put on the wounds with the same stuff.

4  Doctor.  A new doctor from another doctoring service was scheduled for a visit come Tuesday.  The account was finally completely cleared late Friday afternoon.   Of course no medical directives exist until the doctor actually sees the patient.  If it doesn’t work out there isn’t much alternative in home care that is available.  And, there hasn’t been much study on any alternatives to in home care.  Hospital emergency rooms are good places to pick up bed bugs.

5.  Apartment.  Re-doing the lease work date be August 12 (yesterday) but the results are not known a this point (Sunday night).  The application was not in the envelope with the notice.   Necessary papers were not listed, either, but some can be a guess.  That will lead to the leasing inspection set for Friday, the same day the food truck is due again.  They can pick at something that will cost both time and inconvenience.  And, with neither application nor list, it’ll take time.

Friend has been so upset that he went to get stuff Wednesday and forgot to get a constant item, water….

Changes…?

July 30, 2013.

No news today on the nursey front.  There’s something not quite right about the business.  The call for information was after 4:00 p.m. today.  Some was sort of promised for tomorrow morning.  It shall be looked into then if nothing drastic happens in the meantime.  Most of the “up time” of the day was spent messing in the computer trying to get things arranged into a working order.  There’s still a lot to be installed to approximate what was on the now useless one.  The aide to help around the place comes tomorrow and no list was made out – a something else to do in the morning as it’s near the witching hour already.

July 31, 2013.

“Kathy” is gone.  It’s thought she, like “Tim,” was more than a contact — a friend but not a crony is a fair description.  She said today was her last day on the job.  She will be missed and there needs be an adjustment to someone else, someone younger and less experienced, etc.  The retirement came at a bad time with the nursey situation not resolved and standard life going on (continuing) with its constant day-to-day needed activities.  At least the homemaker aide came and all went well.  All the old bandages (now into about their third week) covering the hands were pulled off and replaced.  That was good.

August 1, 2013 … (Delayed)

Well, a nurse (a man this time) finally came again and an assortment of hidden things in the medical documentation came into view, such as a declaration that the patient is obese (a shade under 5’11” at 140-150 lbs. is now obese – by what standard?).  No wonder some (not all) of the people who have shown up in the past were incomprehensible.  The realities and the documentation don’t exactly jive.  The cruddy bandages glued on for a week were replaced.  And, heaven only knows where things are going now, but at least some fresh medication has been smeared around.

August 2, 2013 … (Delayed)

Delayed it is, because the posting for yesterday was finished about five minutes before the witching hour.  A new posting would have been delayed whether it was done then or still later.  It only made sense to go to bed and do it still later.  What happened is a bit foggy now (Monday, August 5).  A serious problem in regard to nursing services had surfaced.  A new doctoring service is in mind.  In the midst of the telephone call regarding the latter, the fire alarm went off.  The call wasn’t finished.  The food truck was soon due.  Later the doctoring service in use got heated words.  Lastly, greetings from the apartment building came.

August 3, 2013 … (Delayed)

These little notes can be done in less than a half of an hour.  There are problems with getting to them.  Well, for this day another round of changing the bandages was due, and Saturday is the only sure one of those priceless “free” days.  So much for that.  Clean bandages are a top priority and something like two-hour deals if there is a lot of paper work.  Much effort was devoted to the huge effort needed for the computer.  To the tallying up from the homemaker aide’s errand was added the the tallying up from the food truck to wait.  Cash is low and an errand by friend is needed to add to the tallying up business….

August  4, 2013 … (Delayed)

It being Sunday, friend stopped by as usual and got loaded down with a growing list of concerns.  He could go get money, phone card (a shade less than twenty dollars was on the cell phone, not enough to go chasing after services for very long), cigarettes and some odds and ends.  He also was prevailed upon to water the plants, poke in the code to put the money on the telephone and see about the nursing services problem come business hours.  Things is ‘way too much to handle….  Late email from the homemaker agency’s contact wanting to come was answered.  And, a load of computer arranging got done.

August 5, 2013.

Well, a third nurse came.  She’s not nearly as good as the first two – didn’t reply to direct statements like, “How do you want to do ‘x’?” and did a lot of “medical advice” talk that didn’t make much sense.  And, she’s the one coming back again Wednesday.   She brought nothing like gauze and tape and used up almost all of what was around.  The agency representative decided to come tomorrow after being told about the nursing services.  Both feet hurt a lot — swollen above the ankles after a couple hours up and it takes hours to get them back down some.  The computer is usable — not finished, but usable as previously used.

It can be easy to get to be a nervous wreck.
