Friday was an eventful day. The food truck was late and that rarely happens. There was a need to change clothes twice; it was after midnight one time. One time wasn’t absolutely need, but it was a good idea. It was chilly enough to wonder about the HVAC working, which meant getting up to investigate. The thing was working, but then there was no going back to bed to get some sleep. A sort of unexpected visitor interrupted the morning rest period. Some was very good, some very bad.
Young friend came on Tuesday and cleared out more mess. Much still needs to be done. Older friend came as usual Wednesday so the plants got care. He also came yesterday and amid more took a grocery list and hauled out the trash. The lunch lady came Friday with food. So far that complaint filed still has paperwork to be sent. The two Avon orders are due this week, and the rent has to be paid since Sunday is May 1. But where things are headed is uncertain. Weather’s been unusual.
There’s a new foody activity by the residents’ association in the form of unexpected little distribution, like yesterday at 3:00 p.m. salad and strawberry shortcake were given away. At the moment the main pre-occupation is replacing aide service, as that still isn’t all covered, so (as before) the project’s on the far back burner and so are several more things. There is no doubt about “retirement living” not being all that it’s cracked up to be, even if one has others around to help.
What tomorrow brings is important.
The doctor came on Wednesday, took readings, blood and a sick houseplant and said he was going to send someone to get an X- ray later. As young friend also came (rent money order day), he got a needed prescription, so that doctor’s stuff got done then. The houseplant will stay with the doctor. Friend also came with papers for new organizations. Even Avon was sorted out. While it took preparation, mostly on Tuesday, important stuff got done on Wednesday. Things really went well.
The X-ray was scheduled for today. It rather blows away some of a day that could be a free day, and this time it also blew away some of Friday trying to find out when the person was to come, but it doesn’t happen that often. Lunch lady brought a half dozen of her kind of eggs (already cooked) along with an ordinary collection of lunch stuff on Friday. Some stuff for the new agencies was finished off. There’s a third thanks to friend now in the works. That’s a long-range thought.
It was quite nice Saturday as friend decided to bring grocery items at his usual Sunday visiting time. The afternoon was a peaceful time and a chance to get a couple of things done. A lot of computer matters followed have been skipped for weeks, and they are likely to continue to be skipped. This includes more than the long dormant project. There have been hopes of finding out more about the death of the cousin who died. The food truck’s due come Friday, friends during the week.
Breathing space is always welcome.
Hope springs eternal. There was a visitor during the week to discuss important elements of aide service at manageable cost for at least the moment. This is far from sure. Some contact with the neighbors was involved and more is expected. Friend came by extra on Saturday in case there was grocery need, and young friend came to help sort stuff for about an hour. Inch by inch the pile is going down. Lunch lady and food truck as usual came on Friday and as usual were very dependable.
The coming days are uncertain. The doctor’s office said that Wednesday is a likely day for a visit. At this point neither the Avon delivery date nor a visit by young friend is certain and the latter is important for getting the rent money orders for May. In addition, there’s stuff to do in regard to those two new agencies on the scene. At least friend has helped to keep the place fundamentally clean even though he has trouble of his own in several respects none of it looking good.
Recently, there seems to be a growing difficulty in standing, even while holding onto something. There is a constant sense of extreme tiredness. It might simply be too much adjustment needed in the last year or so (at least the last six months), but it might be something else as well. Whatever it is, that includes not thinking too clearly at times. (Too much change all together can cause confusion even among the young.) This much is sure, a lot of plans are fallen by the wayside.
The weather can be blamed for some things.
It’s down to business now. Yep. Tuesday’s visitors included pest control poking around the place and maintenance checking the smoke alarms and changing the HVAC filters. Pest Control was especially important because, evidently, some people kept too much stuff in their way. The notice to enter listed some things to do. And, what was listed wasn’t too clear. Should it not be what was wanted meant another round of pest control visiting in two weeks. Those happen in the morning.
Now, of course, this is happening when other stuff is outside the established routine, like Friend showed up on Sundays and Wednesdays (and in emergencies) and watered the plants. He’s been hauling out the trash recently and doing other things to help that take more time at a different time. Lunch lady came just fine and so did the Avon, but next time that won’t be at the regular time. The rent did get paid. There is a massive hunt going on for piece-meal replacing aide service.
Young friend is expected to visit this week, and a second new agency has been contacted. It is also the week for the truck with some food which is going to take some figuring. There’s no one to go to the supermarket except Friend, and he has not been asked to get things apart from an emergency type item if he was going for some other reason. An advertising flyer was found weeks ago left by someone doing errands (for a fee) but as of yet that hasn’t been explored. It is in mind.
Finding answers can be difficult.
